Lifeguard Certification

The curriculum to become a certified lifeguard has been developed under the guidance of the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council, a group of nationally recognized experts that reviews the curriculum to ensure that the information provided offers the latest science. The American Red Cross Lifeguarding classes are designed to teach you not only the basics in water safety but also the proper protocol when dealing with any emergencies around water. The Red Cross blends both traditional lecture style along with crucial hands-on training in order to teach you effective techniques to deliver prompt care to those in need. Learn how to respond safely and efficiently to water emergencies with lifeguard classes from the American Red Cross. 

The cost of certification is FREE for city residents 16-21 with a refundable $25 registration fee. 

City Resident and Recertifications ($25.00 refundable fee) once the course is completed. 

Non-Resident ($250 fee

WHO CAN APPLY?

• Youth who CAN already swim with proficiency

• Youth who are 16 years old by December 1, 2024

• Youth who reside in the City of Buffalo

• Youth MUST be able to commit to the full course

• Attendance is Mandatory
