The Police Athletic League of Buffalo provides positive mentoring to youth in the secure detention facility through sports and enrichment. The youth development programming at the Secure Youth Detention Facility operates two to three hours, two to three days per week. Buffalo PAL staff and coaches work directly with the Youth Bureau to maximize the program times to work with youth. Buffalo PAL has designed programs to support small groups of 10 youth. Programs take place both indoors and outdoors. This program ensures that youth have resources as they transition out of the facility, they will learn the importance of physical fitness, stress management and gain social/emotional tools to carry them in making positive life decisions and it is our hope that they would stay connected with the Police Athletic League of Buffalo, Inc.
The Police Athletic League of Buffalo and the Erie County Department of Youth Services seeks to provide the resident youth at the Detention Facility the opportunity to benefit from programs that help develop skills in civic responsibility, effective communication, problem solving, reconciliation and leadership while being challenged to rewrite their life stories. The department aims to provide quality youth development programming to detained youth to decrease negative behaviors and promote pro-social, positive decision making.
