Winter PlayStreets
Winter Playstreets
Presented by:
Buffalo Police Athletic League (Buffalo PAL) launched the PLAYSTREETS program in the summer of 2020. This program is modeled after the New York City PAL PLAYSTREETS Program, which has been in existence in Manhattan’s Burroughs since the early 1900s. The PLAYSTREETS program is a mobile program; in which the Buffalo PAL Staff, coaches, and police officers travel to designated neighborhoods to provide youth with free sports sampling clinics and healthy snacks.
The goals of Buffalo PAL’s PLAYSTREETS program are as follows:
- Offer at-risk youth the opportunity to stay physically fit, healthy, and active outdoors year-round
- Eliminate the barrier of transportation for youth that would otherwise participate in physical activity
- Assist youth in developing positive relationships with their peers, PAL staff, and members of the Buffalo Police Department’s Neighborhood Engagement Team (BPD NET)
- Assist youth in learning how to identify local council members, District Buffalo Police Department Precinct, and elected officials
